Arches

Standing the Arches

After assembling the arches correctly on the ground and scaffolding is in place, you are now ready to start standing your arches.

Important: In raising your arches the 2 men on the scaffolding (Men #3) will pull the rope first by putting a small amount of pressure on the arch. Men #2 on the ground are going to lift the arch into the air holding it over their heads. Coordinated with Men #3 on the scaffolding pulling, Men #2 are going to walk towards Men #1 on the ground. Men #3 on scaffolding will be doing most of the work by pulling the arch up by the rope. The Men #2's primary job is to steady the arch while it is being pulled up. Men #1's primary job is to keep his foot behind the arch holding it into the footer, and not allowing it to slide.

Important notice for safety:
If at any time during the standing of an arch, you lose control of the arch, Men #1 & Men #2 must be alert and immediately get out of the way of the arch.

Placement of Arch

A building with no packaged endwalls, the first arch with the outer angle attached should be lined up with the edge of the key-way channel. Your arch is now in the air ready to be lifted onto the 4x4's that are being supported by the jacks on the scaffolding. Lift your first arch and let it rest on the 4x4. Line your arch up plumb. Now adjust your jack to obtain the proper height of the arch. The height of your arch will be in the manual. This measurement is from the bottom center of the arch down to the base of the building.

Now stand your second arch by the same method as the first arch, but Men #3 along with the help of Men #1 and Men #2 will now lift the arch 2 to 3 inches and lay the overlap of the 2nd arch onto the overlap of the first arch. Now by using your drift pins, you will line up the holes.

Helpful Information: In order to line up the holes properly, you must use drift pins where the straight panel comes out of the foundation and joins the first overlap on the next panel on both sides of the building by using Men #1 and #2 on each side of the arch. Men #3 will align the holes on top of the building by using two drift pins.

Now insert your bolts and finger tighten. Move your scaffolding forward allowing the 4x4 to be no greater than 2 ½ to 3" out beyond the last arch standing. Repeat this process after you stand every arch, until the building is completed.

Important notice: Before moving your scaffolding, brace the previous arch standing to prevent any sagging that might occur. We highly recommend finger tightening your bolts throughout the building until completed. If you want to speed up your construction time, after you stand an arch, you can go back two arches and tighten the rib of that arch making sure you have your strapping installed to keep the building in line. Follow diagram below.

Once you have 3 arches standing you can go back to the rib between the 1st and 2nd arch and tighten the bolts on the rib, tighten the joints on the 1st arch, then place and install the strapping. Repeat this process until the building is completed.

Important Notice: If the bolt holes of the building start to misalign, stop tightening the bolts and go back and finger tighten the bolts to correct this problem. Repeat the above procedure untill finished.
